Recruiters in the renewable energy sector have responded to the latest wave of acquisitions in the industry.

In the last week, renewables giant BayWa r.e. has bought out Hampshire-based solar PV wholesaler Metgen, while leading renewable energy product distributor Segen has acquired Yorkshire-headquartered wholesaler Zenex Solar.

David Hunt, Managing Partner of renewable energy recruitment specialist Hyperion Executive Search, said: “These two deals are significant for the industry and herald what is likely to be a further period of consolidation as the market continues to mature.

“The majority of the activity is likely to be in the area of solar PV where there is an increasing trend towards manufacturers reaching out beyond distributors and dealing directly with installers.

“In terms of recruitment, we are already starting to see employees unsettled and looking at moving away from roles with distributors and into new positions within the installer community.

“There are also likely to be some exciting opportunities with acquisitive businesses looking to continue to expand and therefore needing to attract the best talent in the market.”

David, who is also the newly appointed Chair of the Renewable Energy Association’s On-site Renewables sector group, added: “Solar has been through some challenging times in recent years, but despite the consolidation there are some encouraging signs.

“Solar PV is continuing to be an important part of the UK’s energy mix, something we are seeing reflected in the number of roles we are currently recruiting, in particular for manufacturers, looking to bring on board new people with a range of skills.”

Liverpool-headquartered Hyperion acts for clients and candidates across a comprehensive range of renewable energy sub-sectors including solar PV, solar thermal, heat pumps, biomass, wind turbines and fuel cells.

Specific disciplines the firm recruits for include general and senior management, sales and business development, operations and logistics, marketing, finance and asset management, design and installation at a senior level.

Hyperion was founded in September last year by David Hunt, who has the unique experience of working both as a director of an award-winning renewable energy installer as well as in senior roles within the recruitment industry.

David and his team work with clients on a number of levels including fully retained search, financially committed search and contingent search depending on the nature and complexity of the assignment.
